Graen is an innovative GPS-based augmented reality (AR) app developed by Galactig to bring the rich history of Dorothea Quarry to life. Dorothea Quarry, known for its fascinating stories ranging from quarry explosions to the involvement of Titanic pump engines, became the canvas for our immersive AR experience.
User-Centered Design:
At the heart of Graen’s development was a commitment to user-centered design, and we enlisted the creative minds of young students from Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle to guide us through the process. These students actively contributed to every stage of the app’s development, from content creation to branding, user experience design, and scripting.
The students played a pivotal role in shaping the Graen app. Their fresh perspectives and imaginative ideas ensured that the app resonated with its target audience – both locals and tourists eager to explore the history of Dorothea Quarry.
Collaborating with the students, we delved into the historical narratives of Dorothea Quarry. The young minds from Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle not only contributed to the research but also actively participated in scripting the stories that would later come to life through Graen. Their unique insights ensured that the content was engaging and appealing to a younger demographic.
Branding and User Experience:
The students took part in an iterative design process for Graen’s branding, ensuring that it aligned with the interests and preferences of their age group. The vibrant and dynamic branding created a visual identity that resonated with the tech-savvy audience. Additionally, the user experience was tailored to be intuitive and accessible, thanks to the valuable input from the young collaborators.
Filming and Augmented Reality Implementation:
A standout feature of Graen is the incorporation of first-person narratives, enacted by the Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle students. To achieve this, the students were filmed against a green screen, allowing us to seamlessly integrate their performances into the AR experience. These captivating stories, set against the backdrop of Dorothea Quarry, create an immersive and educational journey for users.
