A whisper in your ear – opening up performances in any language.

Sibrwd gives audiences the ability to appreciate a performance in any language, whatever language they speak.

We began working with Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru on Sibrwd in November 2013 after successfully obtaining a grant from the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts in Wales with the support of NESTA, Arts & Humanities Research Council and public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council of Wales.

Our agile development process resulted in being able to easily satisfy the requirements of the research consortium. This included audience testing at a number of venues with Welsh language dramas. Feedback sessions were run after the performances – the results of which were then fed back into the design, development, and content production processes.

The app was soft launched in October 2014 at a minority languages arts festival in Germany where a performance of the Welsh language drama Pridd was delivered in English, German, and Sorbian through the Sibrwd app.

Sibrwd is now integral to Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru’s programme and will be available as a licensable platform in the first quarter of 2015. We are jointly seeking additional funding to develop the project further.
